It now looks as if the worst fears about asbestos contamination in India are justified.

Alang is Asia’s largest ship-breaking yard. Thousands of workers take apart huge obsolete liners, using only their hands and very basic tools.

Medical tests now confirm that workers have developed asbestosis.

The question is: what is the government of India—and the people of India—going to do about it?
